My Horoscope:
I am not one to check my horoscope.
I , for the most part, believe that daily horoscopes are a
crock of you-know-what. (Yes Beth, that’s what I said.)
I have yet to find one that said anything to me about my everyday
reality.
Anyway, while some of you get spammed
with sex mail (…and you don’t know why that happens
– yeah, right), I get spammed with cooking stuff, recipes,
CDs, and yes, horoscopes. I rarely read them, but every now
and then, if I am particularly bored, I give it a look see.
This one came in the other day. Just
wanted to share it as a general rule for ALL Geminis:
GEMINI
(May 21-June 20): Give logic equal time with your heart.
Tendency is for you to believe in "love at first sight".
It
might be better to wait for "second sight".
Gemini friends, I’m sure you
can relate. MM

Let’s see….what’s happening……?
I checked my mailbox one Saturday (something
I don’t usually do on the weekend) to find an invitation
that was soooooo beautiful that I didn’t care what it
was, or who it was from – whatever it was, I knew I
was going! I marveled at it for a while before opening. Trying
to figure out how not to ruin the packaging. I was careful
at first, then my excitement got the better of me. And, like
a four year old on Christmas morning, I ripped the sheer,
frosted paper envelope to shreds.
Anyway, it was from menswear designer,
SHAKA KING: An invitation to the grand-opening
of his signature boutique in Washington D.C. The shop - SHAKA
KING NEW YORK - is located at 825 Upshur
St. NW, in Washington D.C. (Phone # 202.291.9700).
If you are in the DC area stop by and support. If you are
not in the DC area – then get to the DC area! If you
know people in DC, spread the word. If you are a guy, with
any kind of flair whatsoever, you want to be wearing Shaka’s
clothes!!!
What else…?
Edward Wilkerson reveals
the sanctity of his living space in the August 2001 issue
of Savoy. Edward’s sensibilities in fashion, art, and
décor, are always a pleasure to behold. Check out the
At Home section to see Edward and his house! The
At Home section of this issue was produced by Harriette
Cole.
Speaking of Harriette…
Harriette Cole (Profundities,
author of “Jumping The Broom”
& “How to Be”) as
usual, has a lot of irons in the fire: She has a weekly advice
column, every Thursday, in The Daily News
called “Ask Harriette.” In addition,
she writes a monthly piece for www.niaonline.com,
a lifestyles website geared towards African-American women.
Keep your eyes and ears peeled, she also has other great projects
on the horizon!
Not important, but……
Have you heard this silly song by Afro
Man: A great anti-drug anthem, I thought.
Oh!
If you haven’t seen or picked
up a copy of “Authentic Hair”
yet, it’s not too late. At $35 or so, it is a steal
– considering that there is no ceiling on what you can
pay for a coffee table book! I am in it, sporting a freshly
grazed head, with my first and only piece of published poetry
- “Liberation.” More info on the site www.authentichair.com
Also, or again –
can’t stress it enuf…
Did you get the e-mail about www.BlackWebPortal.com
? If not, here it is again:
BLACK SUPPORT NEEDED!!
As some of you might know, a dynamic
young African-American Internet duo, Rob and Ross Rucker,
have created a brand new search engine and portal site called
The BlackWebPortal.com. The site is designed with the African-American
in mind. Right now their viewership is the low thousands.
They need to cross the hundreds of thousands barrier to have
any real chance of keeping this site online at all. Some of
you are thinking...why does it matter? It matters because
BlackVoices is wholly owned by the Tribune Company; BlackFamilies
by Cox Communications; BlackPlanet.com
by an Asian company; and Soul City HBO by AOL- Times/Warner.
The BlackWebPortal is the only site that is 100% black.
The BlackWebPortal needs all of us
to start emailing our friends, relatives, etc., all over the
world to start using the resources at the BlackWebPortal.
The important thing is that they need the help getting the
word out about this site.
Let's help this site out by visiting and seeing what they
have to offer. So tell EVERYONE about the BlackWebPortal.
Don't just bookmark it for yourself. Spread the news! This
is a new millennium! We must begin truly supporting black
technology efforts in the same way we cheer our movie and
athletic stars on. If we don't, they'll end up having to do
the same as other black websites, by getting assistance from
elsewhere, thereby losing the original flavor they have.
SPREAD THE WORD AND SEND THIS TO ALL
YOUR FRIENDS
AND FAMILY!

REMEMBER: If we always do what we've
always done, we will always get what we've always had.
