Men on Beauty:
Men are speaking out openly on beauty. What was once
taboo, is now common chit-chat between even the burliest of
guys.
I live on a quiet block overlooking the Trinity Church Cemetery
(I know it sounds morbid but.....it's really beautiful). On
an average Summer morning, I awaken to trees swaying in gentle
breezes, and the symphony of chirping birds. There is
a Verizon dispatcher at the other end of the block and, occasionally,
the workers, all wired up on coffee, manage to wake me up
before the birds can get to me….
The other day I heard two of them conversing secretly, outside
my window. The subject was hair. One expressed heartfelt
disappointment by having had to take his braids out.
"They were coming a'loose in the back Man......She didn't
do it tight enough....on Saturday I just had to take them
out." The other listened attentively, and chimed
in with similar encounter. Both were bearded, burly,
could’ve been in prison yesterday. Although, I was annoyed by
having been robbed of my last few minutes of sleep, at the
same time I was tickled.....pink, if I must say so.
I rolled over, buried my face in the pillow for one final
wink, and thought, "What is this world coming to? There
are men outside my window discussing hair products."
Alright, so men are more than muscles and fitness these days.
They're hairdo's, and steam facials, mud packs, and manicures.
For those of you guys, unafraid to indulge in the vanity that
we always knew was there....This is for you:
Nickel (Spa for Men!) – You guys might
actually enjoy this if you can get over feeling gay….just
for being there. Nickel Salon is complete with its own line
of beauty and enhancement products – STRICTLY FOR MEN.
They also offer massages, facials, hair removal and the works.
(Nothing kinky, in case that’s what you were thinking).

Kiehl’s –
Well, everyone knows about Kiehl’s. I swear by them.
Kiehl’s has always been a place where a man could walk
out with an armful of beauty products, and feel no way about
it. Available on-line, but there’s nothing like visiting
the store. Check the site to find location near you: www.kiehls.com.

Oh!
Whattabout me……
Well, I don’t have too much to
say about me right now…except that I am having a booming
(!) new website done as we speak (thanx to DDGroup). From
the new and improved website, you will be able to view and
purchase my latest jewelry collection, listen to and buy the
CD, find out about upcoming gigs, read THE OMO MISHA TIMES
and more. I would also like to introduce TaNesha Barnes
Diallo (no relation to Amadou, btw) as my new, non-exclusive
jewelry rep. She’s da bomb! More on all this stuff later.
My next live performance date is September
20, 2002 @ Le Bar Bat, 8:30pm. Mark your calendars
- more details to come. I'll also be doing a trunk show @
Kimera (Brooklyn) early this Fall. More details
to come and/or check the website.
