Not feeling
the skinny?
The fashion world dictates what we are and are not to
wear. When the “midi” came out, ladies went
out and threw the mini away. That doesn’t happen
any more. Right now, Paris and New York say “skinny
jeans!”Frankly, I don’t believe people really
give a damn. Why, I couldn’t break my daughter’s
legs to get her into a pair of skinny jeans. (At least
not yet.) I, personally, I am not so eager to revisit
the 80’s myself. In lieu of skinny, I think I’ll
take a pair of slacks like these instead, from M
Shop NYC.

The "SILLY MONKEYS"
collection (shown left and below)
is a sub-collection of WORN PIECE,
a custom-tailored line of reformed military wear
by designer Alex Sumner, and master tailor Carlos
Campos. The line is characterized by restructured
military facades, highlighted with unique accents,
vibrant floral and ethnic-inspired patterns, contrasting
textures, and original art work by the talented
and gifted Renzo
Ortega. This provocative series emphasizes
the dichotomies between American Presidents and
their foreign counterparts, with colorful renderings
of the foreign nemeses (literally, The Monkey
on their backs). "Who represents good and
who represents evil? Is one a symbol of war and
the other the face of peace?" SILLY MONKEYS
raises many questions and contradictions in a
single, inventive item of clothing. |
"The juxtaposition
of war and peace is
what makes the collection more than just fashionable
wear, but a statement of social debate and
curiosity."
