Straight from the horse’s mouth!

What do MEN want?! I mean, really. Has anybody ever bothered to ask??? Well Garrett A. Fortner III, author of Let A Sista Know has decided he’s tired of waiting for us women to ask. He’s just gonna tell us a thing or two…about ourselves, and about “this crazy game of love and grandma panties.”

Let A Sista Know is a visually exciting little hand book written especially for the ladies. In plain, uncensored English, Garrett describes the things that men look for and respect in a woman; the tiny little do’s and don’ts of getting and keeping your man IF that is, in fact, your interest. Let A Sistah Know goes from knee-slapping hilarious to gravely serious, but remains fun and focused throughout its 102 pages.

Garret A Fortner III is a native of Brooklyn, NY, and the founder of New Word Media and grass roots publisher of New Word Magazine, the Boom Collective, and Flick Magazine. Also keep an eye out for American Girls, Garrett’s upcoming publication. Let A Sistah Know and American Girls can be ordered through Barnes & Noble (www.bn.com) and www.Amazonbooks.com.

Fall FFW>>>>>

All things Western…

I had fun in this store, and I’m not even into Western style! They had cowboy hats to-die-for, more boots in more sizes and colors than I had ever seen in my life, leather jackets, coats, and all sorts of memorabilia, including guns and knives….really pretty guns and knives. If you’re in the market for a good pair of cowboy boots or a conversational gift, this is where you go: Western Spirit, 395 Broadway (below Canal) NYC. 212.343.1476 The web address is www.westernspiritnyc.com but there’s nothing like visiting the store. They have two other NYC locations too!

An alternative to fall shopping…?

Okay, Fall is here and we all need a few new things to spruce up our wardrobes. But, who has money?! Let’s face it, we all have really cool stuff that we’ve never worn, or just don’t rock anymore. I don’t know, maybe that cashmere sweater reminds you of the ex-boyfriend who gave it to you?!  Then there are those little treasurables that money can’t buy. You wouldn’t be willing to sell it, but if somebody offered you something for it that was just as sweet, you juuuuuuuuuust might bite. WhatsMineIsYours.com is a hip place on the web where you can swap or buy fashions with other fashionistas just like you. It’s sort of like an Ebay for fashion only, specializing in (juried!) designer labels and vintage. What’s Mine Is Yours is an inventive, fun way to revamp your closet for fashion’s favorite season. It’s worth a browse. Maybe you’ll see something you like!

All hail The King!

What? You thought I was the only great jewelry artist in NYC?!

Nope, there’s at least one other: Shimoda! She’s famous too ;-) was recently on HGTV , and crafts the most darling and amazing journals to boot! You’ll have to see for yourself. Visit Shimoda’s website at www.shimoda-accessories.com

Rebecca Tees

Rebecca has the mind of a teenager down pat. These T-shirts don’t need a lot of visual wow. They make a statement (literally) that stands all on its own. These sassy tees were featured recently on the cover of Time Magazine’s (troubled) teenage issue - “I am a complicated child.” Remember that one? Complicated my acka-backa, what you need is a whippen! Rebecca sells her simple creations on the streets of Soho (Prince Street, just west of Lafayette). My daughter saw this one that she felt spoke to her implicitly. I thought she was going to throw herself out of the moving car to get it. (What?! She is fourteen…whichis much worse than 13, btw.)When finally we parked the car and reached Rebecca’s table, every pubescent passerby seemed to be drawn to one or another of Rebecca’s witty insights. Rebecca’s tees (which have no brand name as yet) sell for $15. Find her in Soho. Maybe you know a pissed-off teen who might like to (get a job and) buy one.
